i think the Mystic take on the FSE is that it should be as good or better than others.. so that you wouldn't want to use an external one. i can't think of anything i'd want added .. but that's just me.

this is the first time i've heard someone ask about using an external editor in Mystic. sure there are some gadgets like user taglines that people might want.. but what else?

I have found the same. Mystic's editor is just what I'd hope an editor on a BBS would be.

this is the first time i've heard someone ask about using an external editor in Mystic.

I have fond memories of dctedit and iceedit and I think that is what folks have in mind. The editor I am using now looks and acts like iceedit and it can also look like dctedit.

sure there are some gadgets like user taglines that people might want.. but what else?

Even that, g00r00 was planning to add support for taglines either in the editor itself or with an mpl, toggleable by the user if desired. It just needs to shake out.

Mystic. sure there are some gadgets like user taglines that people might want..

I'd like it to list the are you're posting to (I forget quickly :-D).

And also that it would set a CHRS kludge dependent on what character encoding the logged-in user is using.

Sometimes the END OF MESSAGE line leaves "residues", and sometimes line breaks are... strange. Also, long lines sometimes get truncated when quoting, so that you don't see the entire line you intend to reply to.

And, if one postpones a message multiple times, I'd wish that only one draft would be saved (the latest). Although that is technically not in the FSE.

Also, a "normal" mail scan during login (that shows all new i.e. unread messages addressed to me) is hard to achieve. Requires lots of fiddling with flags and scanning functions and sometimes still shows messages that you didn't expect it to. The concept of "e-mail" and global personal messages and the scanning of those is confusing, to say the least.

Still, I'm thankful for it being made available. It's got lots of features in one package. But the defaults should be quite different.

    Best regards

The logon mailscan only looks in the local email base.

When I want to scan for mail addressed to me, I use the global personal scan and that has always worked well for me. I have every base turned on for scanning (Z from each message group, not sure if the global scan looks at that).

The only thing I find is that the global scan menu needs the /NOLR option added or it sets the last read to the messages read in that scan, so you can miss messages in a new scan.

    Yep. :)

I added a global personal mail scan right after it (I believe in certain circumstances the global personal mail scan didn't pick up "e-mails").

The only thing I find is that the global scan menu needs the /NOLR

Thanks! Yes, I also noticed this and added it.

Yes, by default the list acs is %, so you need to change that, or find a way to work with it.. :)

Yet you run Synchronet. Not bashing Synchronet, it's great. I have it intalled as well. I have nothing against Mystic's FSE just wondered if it was possible. I ran a TG bbs back in the day with Iceedit and my 1200 baud modem
is why I wanted to run it or DCTEdit (can't find DCTedit though).

I have dctedit here although I haven't run it in many years.

I think it suffers from the RTE 200 issue that so many doors from that era do. There are fixes for pascal executibles but I don't know if it can be made to work.

    ftp://trmb.synchro.net/bbs/UTILITY/dcted004.zip

    The dictionary is ed004dic.zip.

I could binkp them over to you if you like.

Thanks tried to logon to get them, but can't remember my pass. I emulate NTVDM64 here and have tppatch, so rt 200 should not be a problem. Also ftp wouldn't connect via chrome.

Then click the files link, then BBS, then utilities. dcted is in there along with the dictionary file.
